Story of our Company

Timeline[1]

Over 75 Years Serving the Metals Industry

How It All Started

Arthur Holtman founded Wasatch Metal and Salvage in 1946. This full-service junk yard collected scrap metal, cars, boilers, water heaters and other scrap material. They were recycling before the term was invented. In the 1970’s Wasatch began selling reusable steel from their stock customers and quickly became the source for quality surplus material.

Wasatch Steel is Formed

In 1977, Wasatch Steel was incorporated creating the “steel supermarket”. A full line of new inventory was brought in to compliment the popular surplus and used material. A family-owned company that was owned and originally run by Bill Holtman, a son of Arthur Holtman, Wasatch Steel was eventually actively run and managed by Bill’s daughter Teresa Holtman and Bill’s son-in-law Lynn Hurst.

The Next Stage

In 2019, Wasatch Steel was purchased by Scott Jackson and Kirk Benson. Having worked together at Headwaters Incorporated for over 15 years, they teamed up with the goal to assist in taking Wasatch Steel to the next level. Scott Jackson actively runs and manages the business. Teresa is still a major part of Wasatch Steel while Lynn wanted to retire. Wasatch Steel continues to be an industry leader in providing customers with a complete and professional steel supermarket focusing on customers and the excellent service that is second to none. Come by and see what makes Wasatch Steel so great!
